Organizations & Associations

Getting involved is a great way to connect with your peers, learn more, and expose yourself to new ideas and cultures. Join an organization in the Department of Modern Languages, or visit the Office of Student Engagement and Leadership to see all of the student organizations on campus. There are three student organizations in our department: Francofous, Spanish Club, and a chapter of the national Spanish honor society Sigma Delta Pi.

Francofous

Nous sommes fous pour le français et le monde francophone !

The UL Lafayette French club is an official student organization which organizes events and outings. During the fall and spring semesters, we run a Table Française every week, and we host various kinds of events: films, dîners, soirées, etc. The most fun we have, though, is getting together and speaking French.

We invite anyone at any level of French, whether or not you're a current language student, to attend our events and participate in our enthusiasm for France, French, and la Francophonie.

Vivons en français !

Spanish Club

El Club de Español, an official student organization at UL Lafayette, organizes events and activities in which students can participate to further their experience with the Spanish language and its many cultures. One of our main goals is to advance the internationalization of our campus by creating a forum for those who study, have an interest in, or already speak Spanish. We have expanded our usual club meeting la mesa española to include the broader student body and are planning a new film series, and if possible, a student-run journal are underway. We welcome anyone and everyone, regardless of your experience with Spanish, to join us during our events and activities. Faculty advisers for the Spanish Club in 2017-2018 are Leslie Bary and Francisco García-Rubio.

Sigma Delta Pi

We host the Alpha Rho chapter of the national Spanish honor society Sigma Delta Pi. This national honor society offers scholarships, travel, and publication opportunities through their journal El Cid. For further general information or if you are interested in joining please contact the faculty adviser, Mario Sagastume or the 2017-2018 student President, Laura Jaén.
