M.A. Options
The Department of Modern Languages offers the M.A.
in Francophone Studies with the option of doing half of the coursework
in Spanish. This degree is designed for students interested in
comparative literary or linguistic studies. It affords solid
preparation for Ph.D. programs in these areas. It is also useful
for high school and community college teachers working in both
languages. The program provides a minimum of 18 hours of graduate
credit in each language, so that its graduates are eligible to teach
both French and Spanish at the postsecondary level.
Spanish courses labeled (G)
may be taken for graduate credit. Courses labeled 501 and above are
arranged individually. For further information on course content and
arrangements for graduate level courses in Spanish, please see Leslie Bary or Richard Winters. For more
general information on the graduate programs in this department, please see program description in Francophone Studies, or contact the Graduate Coordinator, Suzanne Kocher.
