Modern Languages at UL Lafayette

Latin

Welcome

Four semesters of Latin are offered at UL Lafayette. The 12-hour sequence may be used to fulfill the language requirement in Liberal Arts. It begins in the fall semester, alternate years.

Latin courses attract undergraduate and graduate students for a variety of reasons. Their academic and career interests include law, medicine, nursing, pharmacy, veterinary medicine, biology and the other sciences, as well as linguistics, history, religion, liturgy, classical studies, and medieval studies.

Information and Resources for Students

Cambridge Latin Course Online Activities | ULL Language Resource Center

Latin 101 and 102 form an introductory first-year class for beginners. Latin 201 and 202 form a second-year intermediate course for students who have studied Latin for one year at the college level.

Students who have studied Latin at other schools may take a placement exam during the first week of classes. Their performance on this exam determines the level in which they should enroll, and lets them earn academic credit here for work undertaken elsewhere.
